Colour matching your belt

A smart technique of matching shoes with a belt and other accessories will create a harmonious and dapper look. Investing in a versatile and modular belt collection can greatly improve your whole appearance in a cost-effective way.

We recommend that you match the color of your shoes and your belt as closely as possible. Fortunately, because there’s a visual distance between your belt and your shoes, it doesn’t have to match 100%. It just has to be close, so visually, it appears to be the same.

With a few choice exceptions you should be sticking to a core set of belt colours which are versatile.

Dark Brown Belt

This universal belt and shoe combo can be worn with practically any colour of suit, but it’s best worn with trousers in a mid to dark tone. Navy and grey tailoring or separates are ideal.

Black Belt

When paired with black shoes, a black belt is the second most versatile option. From light grey through to charcoal and black, this style of belt works best when worn with a monochrome colour palette.

Blue Belt

A blue belt is ideal for adding a subtle flash of colour to a look. Worn with tonal blues or khaki trousers, a blue belt is perfect for adding personality to an off-duty ensemble.

Tan Belt

A tan belt works best when worn with tan shoes. The combination looks its best worn with a navy suit but this colour also complements trousers in earthy tones such as khaki or brown.

The Dos And Don’ts Of Matching A Belt

Do try and match the colour and texture of your belt to your shoes.

Don’t stick to one belt colour for all occasions. Have a brown, black and tan option to cover most eventualities and dress codes.

Do use colour to spice up smart-casual outfits.

Don’t team vibrant belts with other statement pieces.
